Use of Pilot Stations |
|

There have been some recent discussions related to the need to fly from the pilot stations and moving closer to the runway for takeoff and landing. While the club practice was to permit moving closer to the runway only for takeoffs of first flights of new aircraft and for students on their first few takeoffs, pilots were expected to conduct all other takeoffs and landing from the pilot stations. However, the club rules as listed on this site, and MAAC rules, permitted pilots to move towards the runway for both takeoff and landing.
After some discussion amongst the directors we have decided to maintain the rule as written (i.e. confirm that it is allowed to move closer to the runway for takeoff and landing), but to add text to require that the pilot announce his intention. This change makes us consistent with the MAAC rule. The new text reads as follows (change is in red).- Pilots are expected to stand in the designated pilot station when flying.
- During take-off and landing, a pilot at a pilot station may briefly move closer to the runway to ensure an unimpeded view of the aircraft if the intention is announced to the other flying Pilots.
Note that you are not permitted to remain beside the runway while flying, and given that it can be tricky to move around while keeping full attention on your aircraft we continue to recommend that pilots takeoff and land from the pilot stations.

WIMAC Flight Training Policy |
|

The Club Executive has been discussing two aspects of the instructor situation.
- There is a shortage of Instructors. This is frustrating to the students who want to fly, and to the few Instructors as the workload increases on them.
- Probably due to item (1), a number of members not formally identified as Instructors by the club have been assisting students. While in many cases these members may be capable of instructing, the fact that they are not recognized as instructors puts the club at risk in the event of an accident.
The policy over the past few years has been that instructors are those members who have passed either the level C or D Wings level test, and who have expressed an interest in instructing. In reviewing this policy we have concluded that level C/D (primarily aerobatic capability tests) are neither necessary nor sufficient to qualify as an Instructor (good, safe control of trainer type aircraft and an ability to pass on the skills to the student are what we are really after).
We have therefore revised the training policy. This will allow members who are capable of instructing effectively to qualify as Instructors, and hopefully result in a larger number of instructors being available. If you are interested in becoming an Instructor, please contact our Chief Instructors or other members of the Club Executive. We will evaluate each application according to the updated WIMAC Flight Training Policy.
]Of course, along with introducing the revised qualifications we also need to ensure that the club operates in compliance with the spirit of the training policy, therefore:
- If you are not qualified as an instructor, please do not

Field Information |

Roll Call
In the interests of safety, please take the time to announce your intentions to go to the field. Flying alone can be dangerous and is discouraged at our club.
Field Access Procedures
The gate is to be kept closed at all times due to the fact that people have been dumping on the property behind the parking lot and the city is forcing the school to pay for the clean-up. Therefore, close the gate after you come in as well as after you leave.
Garbage Disposal
You are responsible for any garbage you bring to the field. Please do not leave any mess behind for others to deal with.
Lawn Cutting
All aircraft are to be grounded while the lawn is being cut and do not make the guy wait until you are through flying. He is not paid by the hour. If he is losing his time, this could result in higher grass cutting fees for the club. This should be obvious but apparently it is not.
