This is A JR GSR260
Zenoah G260 PUH engine
800mm blades
can lift 13 lbs payload

I actually kissed the ground with it.. worst part is the main blades and the tail canopy...$$$...

Cause of crash...: Learning how to tune a gasoline engine.

This bird is big and Sooo Fast.. I'm loving the gasser feeling, but still got lot's to learn on gas engines.

I bought this for aerial photography along with an Airfoil Pro 1 Mount.
For pictures of it you can visit airfoil helicam's web site.

You shouldn't have problem with a gasser, specially a Zenoah? You just fillem up, start them and FORGET IT! A real Popeal machine.:D

Usaully 1.5 turn on both Low and High to start and then fine tune just a little at a time, remember the colder it is outsider the more Oxygen there is so richer mixture.

Wow! A gasser heli! We don't see too many around but it sounds great to me. I suppose you may need to pay more attention to vibration issues like screws coming loose, if not loctited well enough, but is should be much more economical to run than a large glow heli.

A lot cheaper to run....
Looking to get one some day:o

Zorba converted is 60 raptor a gasser with gasserman's conversion kit.

I'm planning on using mine for the same reason. I got the Askman Mount which I can use with the skids or without.

It dependes how much vibration it generates, Is its severe then I'll use my Logo20 for AP work.

Cheeper to run but look at the price of 800mm blades... !!

the cannopy is something too...

The tunning is hard on a heli because normal tunning is done by tunning the Hi needle then the low and back to hi.....

With a Heli to tune the hi you need to put the engine under load AND run it et full throttle like planes do on the ground.... This can only be achived through full power climbs (...) if the engine is not tuned you can burn it in a sec ( like I did) or it can stall or kick ( damn do a gasser kick ) ...

lots of reading in the last months....

Hi Jeffrey, Yea it could be a pain but you need to have calm nervs when you do that. And having calm nerves when you fly a gasser is something else. There's alot info on RR. Do a search for a guy named rbort his name is Raja. This guy is an expert on gassers. 1 1/2 turns is too much. for breaking in you need 1 1/4 to 1 3/8 turns both needles. Then you adjust accordinally.

Don't forget planes are not running at full throttle all the time, helis do.
2 gallons of fuel with 32:1 mix with agood synthetic oil.
Lawn Boy ashless is one (if we can find it up here) and the Castrol.

And another thing, don't use your governor for breaking in the engine.

Amsoil is another. After 5 gallons the engine should be fine tuned and running smooth.

I'm starting mine up this weekend. Just the mechanics no head on it no tailboom. Run it for 10 minutes shut down cool the engine completely and do it again for the first gallon.
Watch for the temperature. On the ground you don't get enough flow through the head.

Cheers

I've talk to rbort and he helped me alot and I've read all that RR could give me

I've run mine for nearly 5 liters already... one tank will last 15-20 minutes...
I spent alot of time chasing those little vibes due to the tunning... the last time I took it out it was running Soo smooth with the nicest Purr Ive heard on a heli....

But......

On throttle down, when hot, The engine would quit briefly and resurge with the predictable tail swing ( 997 mm tail )
I wasn't to have stable decent to land and almost lost it a few feet from me.. panicked, and landed croked... lnding gear didn't resist....

For tuning you need a good friend, temp gage, know your plug readings and get your nerves calmed down....

Spot on. But I read on a post that when she kicks like a mule is because is running too lean. Also when shes lean it would overheat and shut down.

Thats good to know someone has a gasser so we can exchage info.

Hey Zorba !

I just want to warn you to be careful with the air-filter on your gasser.
I had the same one and it nearly burned my engine because the thin alluminium ring holding the filter on the rubber joint broked and got sucked in the engine railling the piston and damaging two bearings and plug...

So do no manipulate this filter by the cone.. do it by the rubber..

I've switched back to the regular carb and filter and I'm having no power issus other than being impressed by the amount that is available

Jeffrey :D

thanks for the advice Jeffrey.
Which filter are you talking about?
The flying saucer or the other one. I have two gassers.
The predator and the raptor 60 conversion.

Cheers

beautiful heli Bill..... amazing!

why do you metion "rebuild"? what happened to it????, how much did it cost you the "rebuild"?

zorba
2009-01-29, 08:03 PM
Sorry huys I should rephrase that.
I bought the heli used from RR.
Not knowing the condition of the bird, I took it all apart, cleaned it and inpected all items.
I had to get some new bearings and other small stuff.
But mostly I got the upgrades from Century and this is the way she looks right now.
I still want to get metal grips cause I don't trust the plastic with the 800mm blades..
The painting is mine and is got the Condor tail boom which is stretched..the original Predator swings 710mm blades.
Also the AP2000i will be aewsome...

Thats all

Bill
