Hi Guys,
As some of you know, I bought a Fiesler Storch (Svenson kit) more than 20 years ago in Berlin. I have finally decided it must be built. How is that for procrastination!! However, a project this size and complexity requires me to consult occasionally with the members.
Here are the measurements as shown by Svenson:
Metric English
Wingspan 2375 mm 93.5 in.

Wing surface 85.27 sq. dm 1323 sq. in.

Fuselage 1560 mm 61.4 in.

Weight 4200 g 148 oz.

Engine 10 cc 0.60 2 stroke

Wing loading 50 g sq. dm 16.6 oz sq. ft

Although it is still early in the project, I must decide on the size and type of engine. I have a problem with that because it may be heavier and even at 148 ounces, I think a 0.60 two-stroke is not enough. So give me some ideas:
two-stroke or four-stroke? What size?
Electric? Not very realistic for a true replica.

With a wing loading of 16 oz sqft that's probably less than most Piper Cub so the .60 might be well enough for scale flight.

9 Lbs...!
I have a rarely used OS .91 FX ring available....
However, remember that if you want to fly it scale speed is not necessary... but power to get you out of problems is always welcome...

I'd go with the 91 four stroke, which is what I was/am planning on my own Storch, half built with the engine still sitting in it's box. Forget about the extra power, what you want it for is to swing a large prop! The biggest you can get away with, it'll look best with close to a scale prop size.

Hi Stephane,
Just a quick question, where did you get the pilot?

I'll be turning a 18x8 E on mine with an AXI 4130/20 and a 6S batterie. It 5.9kg or 13lb ready to go.
The real Storch must have been very quiet so the electric should be ok and the big prop will make some noise.

It sounds good, Xavier. I hope to see it in the air soon. Mine has not yet advanced a great deal but it will be ready this fall, I hope.
As for the sound of the original Storch, when they flew over our house in Holland it sounded about like a low flying Cessna172 today.
Happy landings.
