I seem to remember hearing that one of the local clubs (MRCC?) has had a potato gun contest.

Andrew, you are right re the Potato Shoot at MRCC, but that was 4 years ago, as shooting down a plane is against MAAC rules, so we dropped it, and now just have a Chili Fly in October, which is a lot of fun. Our President makes the best Chili and on a cold day it is even better.

Some years back then they decided to abide by MAAC.... with paintball would be a lot of fun!

You missing the point here. Is not to shoot down the plane but hit it.
When the pellets hit the plane small charges explode.
You can see it on the belly of the plane round objects. I don't think you can bring that plane down by shooting at it unless there's a pilot error.
