I'm working on my 3D plane I bought recently to give it a U-Can-Do look.

First part removing the covering and covering the bottom of the wings.

Nitro, you can see it (with old cover) in flight here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/29372477@N05/7440278656/in/set-72157630281347884/lightbox/). Thanks to David who took some pictures (http://www.flickr.com/photos/29372477@N05/sets/72157630281347884/).

First layer of color is done!

I had a hard time with the round wing tip. On one side I tried with a full sheet of covering and tried to bend it to follow the curves. I'm not proud of the result. On the other side I cut little triangle and build it like a patchwork. It is better but still, there must be a better way.

Any advice?

Advice: avoid round wing tips.
It looks good!

Hard to explain...you need a heat gun and leave the covering long so you can pull and shrink.

The trick with round wings is to just use the heat gun and pull on the covering while you heat the round edge. After use the iron to seal the edges and trim excess covering.

The second and last layer of color.

Next step, the fuselage... Stay tuned.

good Work Eric,

if you want to get rid of the wrinkles put the heat gun real close, specially if it's monokote, and they will disappear just stop before it melts. You might also have to use a pin to prick a hole to let the air escape.

What I found that work best on wing tips was to pull straight out the monokote, you need some kind of glove for this like a garden glove with little dots so that it wont slip, heat it up with the heat gun and when you feel that it start to stretch you pull it down on the surface. Then you cut the extra and seal the seam with the iron.

Also when you put monokote on top of itself, on flat surface, the best way is to use Trim solvent (it does not work well with Ultracote though) then there is no bubbles.

Nice plane.
I had 3 of these and still have 1 that I flew 2 weeks ago. That one is electric. The first one was glow. The second one was glow and electrified later. I also had a UcanDo and loved the color. You will have fun.

See you tomorrow.

Even with that windy Sunday I was able to give a little ride to my newly covered plane.

That was a really great day at the field.

Thanks for the BBQ, it was excellent.
