What is F3A?

F3A is a World organization. It is the pattern that I use to fly in the 60's. They patter they fly is nothing like the IMAC pattern. many of the manuvers are done in the middle of the sequence. These planes have very long tail moments, and are very very smooth. They cut the air in a very sleek way. Most have also retracks and very hot engines like the YS 170. Also very high teck like carbon fiber fuses. The kits could go as high as 5000 dollars. This was the patter that was very popular in the 60's, 70's and early 80's. Then IMAC came into the picture, and maybe the reason for it being so popular is that the planes are copies of real planes, like the Yaks, the Extras etc. F3A pattern is still very popular in Europe and Asia. Usually teams from small countries wins, Canada and the USA have done well in the old days, so we will see how they do this year.
If I remember, the planes have a weight limit, wing area limit engine power limit, and so on. Very very strick rules govern this event.
Hope you enjoy reading their bog.
The pic is of me in the early 70"s with my two pattern ships. Called the Cutlass. It has a Webra 60, with rom air retracks. beautiful flyer.
