Je l'ai justement commandé hier pour l'essayer. On s'en reparle.

Welcome back, Xavier. I am sure you show those Europeans how well the Canadians fly.

Do not exagerate Alberto. I was going there to learn and that's what I did. I didn't want to be last and I wasn't. I have lots of ideas to try in the airplane build and trimming.

Xavier maybe you can share your learned knowledge first by telling me what's the advantage of having double propellers and also why the front one is at 30 degrees or so angle?

The double propellers (contra rotating) is mostly to eliminate torque on the plane. I suppose that with the relatively large prop diameter compared to the wingspan, it has more effect than on larger planes. It may also create a straighter airflow over the fuselage and wing but I am not sure. The other advantage if you have 2 motors controlled independently is that you could use the torque from one or the other in rolls and torque rolls. I mean that you do the same as on the coaxial helicopter when rotating the fuselage around the rotor. One motor accelerate, the other slows down. Some pilots say it works, some other say it doesn't. I'll have to try it one day :-)

There were 4 differents systemes with contra prop. The one on Gernot Bruckman’s plane from Austria was the Kimmo from Finland. It has 2 gear reductions similar to the old GWS with two outrunner and 2 ESC. It is very noisy because of the gears.

Donatas Pauzuolis from Lithuania had the Glavak setup with on motor that has a prop link to the rotor and one to the 'stator'. To get the current to rotating ‘stator’, there are 3 brushes at the back. It is quiet but doesn’t have the flexibility of 2 motors.

Fabien Turpeau from France was using 2 outrunner mounted back to back (his own designed). He uses existing motor that he rewinded. That was very quiet but heavier than the 2 above.

The Russian Alezey Lantsov was using his own design mechanical contra system using two discs 2 bearing on a T shaft. Very simple and brilliant. He had a new design that he hasn’t flown yet.

The angle of the prop on the Glavak is to put some distance between the prop whitout going to a long shaft like the other systems. The prop need some distance between them like the wings of a biplane.

See the pictures below in the same order.

A video of my flight #3 I think. I am glad to see a video of it. It's not
that bad after all :-)

Was there a specific program you had to fly or it was free form?
Very nice performance.
Thank you for your explanation of the twin propellers. This hobby has exploded in the last few years both in Indoor and in Multirotors. And perhaps is due not only to electric setups but also to the amazing array of very clever electronics available.
I can see at WIMAC the trend towards electric planes... it must be the same elsewhere.
Never a dull moment!

Très beau vol Xavier et merci pour les explications c'est très interressant.

On devrait faire des mini compétitions au Indoor:confused:

That was the program called AP13 used for the preliminary. The top 10 pilots then flew the AF13. Here is a video of the world champion during the final:

He is really good :-)
