I came home on christmas eve and there was a letter addressed to my for canada post , so I ran to the post office and there was a package waiting for me from Vario in New Brunswick. I couldn't wait till chrismas now!.
WOW . Inside was a Huey UH-1D and 1400 rivets. So I now have a winter project ..

Rivets: There aren't enough of them, I need over 2000 so I will have to make my own. Elmers glue and a suringe:eek: The ones I recieved are for models already painted ,so I will apply them to my Bell 222. I'm going to go rivet crazy............................................. ... see its starting already.

I finally found out who Santa is,my girl friend Shelley.:freakedout:

That's going to be one nice machine. What mechanics are you planning to use?

BARBERIK

I'm going to use the same as before in the last one. Hirobo SST Eagle a metal frame and a metal shaft for the tail drive and a 40 degree gear box. O.S. 70 Motor.

No yours is ok, I will put landing skid on mine most likely, Like I see on some 222 rescue helis, so the gears are on like that until I get the low profile skids

It should be looking more like this... Smoke included!!!

Safety First

The story goes like this...
1) I needed to empty the cabin in order to fill it with nice scale stuff.
2) I phoned Kevin at hobbyville to inquire about a CCPM kit made by Century to know if it would fit on my 47? The answer was no to many modification involve. Well I ordered it anyway...I had a good feeling from what I saw on the web.
3)The CCPM kit worked perfecly the only mod I had to do was to pinch the side frame about 1 inch.
4)The only other problem was the scale gaz tank they would not fit because of all that space used by the new servos around the main rotor.
All I did was to make another tank bracket and installed it on side frame $6.99 carbon fiber.
5) I also removed the original fuel tank(I will use that space for receiver, gyro and throttle servo.
6)I relocated the fuel tank on the landing gear right side and the smoke system on the left side.

I've cut all the doors and window openning ,and trimmed/ fit all windows. Almost ready for priming and riveting.
I tested the drive mechanics by fitting my drill to the main shaft and running my drill till the battery runs dead.

Rivet rivet. I'm starting to sound like a junky frog.
I use a small suringe and elmers school glue. They have to be done twice so they are visible.

It's alive! I installed the mechanics last night. Now I have to break in the motor and test everything, make a 100 or so ajustments . There is still lots to do.I'm probly going to model it as a Dolphin of the 174th AHC (slick)
I hope the next set of pictures will be of my Frankenstein flying.

Hey Eric it looks awesome.I got the same thing except mine is the Bell212 TwinJet from Vario of course. Yours is th Bell 205
I just finished the rivet detail today.
I bought the Starwood models rivet kit, but I didn't like the glue. It shrinks if you make big rivets.
I use the WeldBond glue. Is much thiker.
I only apply it once and it wornt run or shrink.
I use the Vari SkyFox mechanics.
The Freya mechanics are installed on my Bell 222 which is in display down at Udisco_hoping someone will buy it.
I took hundreds of pictures during the built.
There too many to post.
I'll just post the final ones after is painted.
Hope to see you at the field for the maiden flight.
Good luck.
Cheers

Today I tried to take off, but the engine still isn't ready (nor I).I managed to get off the ground but the engine is still very rich and the R.P.M. drops under stress.
I don't know How! but I had the gyro in reverse.
My stress level was way up.

PaulG-rc
2008-03-04, 09:43 AM
Gyro in reverse, well you know what the same thing happen to me after sliding the mechanics in my 222, its a good thing I spool up slowly and saw this before getting airborn.
It is strange when you consider how small the switch is on the gyro but still it happen.
I'm quite shure this is what happen to one of the helis that went down on sunday from what I saw ,he said that the gyro did not respond but thats what happens the heli spins clockwise you want to correct oposite but since its reverse you make it worse and you beleive the gyro doesn't respond, sort of like an illusion :D
So its a good practice to spoolup slowly and see the heli react to torque first, better to have the problem at 1 inch from the ground then 5 feet. :D
Cant wait to see your heli airborne Eric :D

I was going to. Is the Bell TwoTwelve Twin. Now is all stripped down to the glass. There was no way to sand the ripples off. So I poured reducer on it and took everything off. I got it home and now I'm sanding off the rivets and getting ready to prime again. The rivets got soft with the reducer.
Like as if I had nothing better to do. Hah
Oh well thats how you learn I guess, But this time it will be done right.
I will use all the paints from BASF that way is the same formula.
Anyway I will let you know how things are comming along. You are right about Easter. My Easter (Orthodox) is at the end of April.
Cheers

Bought this Youngblood Radix 600 main blade today at Modéliste $89.40 this is $30.00 less than Great hobby also got a Futaba R 138DP that I ordered on monday for $7.00 less than G.H got goo price and service. As you can see I moved all the servo to the frame in order to clear the cabin. I installed a bulkhead that is actualy the rear of the cabin this way I can remove the cabin without disconecting anything. The throttle servo (left) is mounted on the bulkhead with none conductive soft silcone tape and tie wraps. The receiver will be at the same place on the right side.Battery pack will be behind the motor where the fuel tank use to be. Gyro: simple Gy 240 no need for more is on the upper center and hidden by the bulkhead top trim made out of velcro I neded something flexible in order to adapt to the cabin curve. Exhaust:I still have to do some work on the header not on picture but the rest is where it should be cosmetic work will be done.Fuel and smoke tank will be installed on the landing gear. Tail boom light $0.69 at DDO electronic.

This is it for now.

To come: Cabin removable in 30 sec/ Velcro mounted interior....

Should out completed end of may.

PS: Last picture give you and idea of what I had to remove to empty the cabin.

I was once told by a hobby shop owner to stay away from Century helicopter.Since the only affortable model of Bell 47 was produce by Century I took a chance... Well STAY AWAY from Any Century heli product!!!!

There the worst product on the market.

1)- Holes missing in tail rotor ass'y.

2)- Reversing the fuel tank impossible to do without filling 1/4 inch on the main frame.
3) When you modifie the tank as per instruction you have to undo everything because on the next page they tell you to file the bracket you installed on the previous step because your motor wont fit.

4) The main frame comes in 6 pieces that just don't fit filling and sanding again.

5) The tail rotor grip and slider where so cheap I had to change with Hirobo's tail unit.

6) I had to change all the screw I mean ALL! They were to soft, poorley manufactured and full of metal chips.

7) Metal head missing parts (spacer on control arm) and so stiff that I had to undo clean and lubricate all the moving parts.

8) Took me 8 hours to isntall the bubble on it's frame.... 3 easy steps they say...

On the positive side...

The box was nice and the parts well packed.

ps: I already know that the clucth is grabing I feel it when I turn to motor manualy( another session of clucth surfacing at the field 15 seconds at the time).

Their kit are ****ty don't go near it!

This was my review about The Century Helicopter products Bell 47GII.

Stick to HIROBO PRODUCTS they fit and fly perfectly!!!!!!

I feel better now.

Thats a bummer I guess this is why we dont here much about Century helis.

Good luck Andre

Actually I had the century Hawk pro and it was a great machine for its money. Parts were good and solid, the frame was conveniently in two pieces to take out the servo tray all together if needed.

For the 47 G I don't know but the Hawk was great for 320 with the engine !!

Now I have the Hirobo and it's great anyway.

Denis Cloutier
2008-04-03, 11:11 PM
Same here
Hirobo are a bit more expensive but parts all fit perfectly, are solid and readily available in Montréal. Rush parts are available in store at Udisco most of the time or From Distribution aux Modéliste at lower price.
:D

BARBERIK
2008-04-04, 09:08 AM
I personnaly like Hirobo, the parts are as Denis sayes easy to come by and I find it's a good product.

I've flown all kinds of products. Kavan 1970S- parts don't exist only some parts at udisco. GMP 1980S- parts don't exist . Graupner 1973- part don't exist.I 've retrofitted them all with Hirobo parts.
I have a kyosho and I find the seesaw can easily detach from it's holder.

So it depends on what you buy , there all the same .

Vario -scale fuse parts are cheap plastic(warped) and very expensive, example: I 'm missing a door hinge, they want $75 for a kit and it's just cheap plastic.. I can make 1 for nothing and will.

Century- the part I got is excellent for my needs.
