Hi Guys

For those who have seen the HK Durafly Skymule lately well I got myself one and decided to really modify it.

Here is a link to my close build thread for now.

This morning I got to do a fair amount of work on the wing.
I got the flaps done and the light system except for the belly beacon.
Nothing is glued yet until I have the aileron servos in and adjusted.
When done my ailerons will droop done with take-off flap position like the real Beaver and twin otters.

It looks very nice Paul. Personally, I find the Skymule butt-ugly, but your have transformed it into a plane with class.

Hey Paul what light system do you use?

Hey Paul what light system do you use?

I use the Flyzone Beaver light set and also I had ordered little beacon lights made for rc police cars and I use the module to control the tail red and white beacon, plus another little module I had for the second tail white beacon.
I still have to install a belly beacon and I have 3 other module type to choose from but I want to get another 10mm super bright LED for it.
Now I'm thinking of making my landing lights activated with my Flaps and have them pulse or Wig-Wag

finally got my Flaps and Ailerons working on my Skymule Mod

Showing here my Skymule 3 position Flaps and aileron droop setup.
I use 2 switches
Position #1 Take-off flaps with aileron droop
Position #2 Flap 2 ailerons up
Switch #2 Full Flaps and ailerons still up.
Now from there I can select position #1 take-off flap on switch #1 and aileron go in a droop mode with the full flaps.

Looking good Paul. Which transmitter are you using? Love the voice prompts for the different settings!

Update on my project, got a bit of motivation to do some more on it :D
I installed the motors and ESC's in the nacelles then installed the nacelles to the wing.
Did some finishing touches under the wing and around the nacelles.
Then I programed the differential thrust on my DX9 and that took lots of thinking and trial and errors but its done and working really good.

At first I wasn't sure how to go about it but I was thinking about the flapperon setup and thought it had to be similar.
It takes 3 mixes but you still need a command to fine tune one motor so again more thinking and decided to use a knob and control the slave motor.
Then I hit the throttle cut and only one motor would stop so again more thinking so I had to make another mix assigned to the throttle cut switch and it finally worked
So if I want the differential to taxi I flip a switch and by using the rudder stick I control one motor at a time and once I'm ready for take off I flip the switch to make sure the differential is off in case I need to use rudder on take-off and that could be disastrous :D

I guess it would be possible with car or boat ESC's

Yes,... but no boat esc's : because of no cooling during the flight...

You would really have to run your ESC's really hot to have problems.
Inside a boat they are closed in tight and they get hot so they need extra cooling

A small video of the first flight of my modified Durafly Skymule that I now call my SkyOtter :^)
The test flight was done using 2 rhinos 3s1p 2250 mah 45c lipos in parallel.
The CG was at 55mm from leading edge with a tad nose dip.
The flight was very stable.
Take-Off was done with 10 deg flaps and 5 deg aileron droop and keeped on the flyby and landing.
I had to take-off with the Throttle differential activated to maintain a good track and turn off once airbone.
Very happy with the performance.:)
