While charging a small lipo, the charger sounded an alarm. I went to see and found the lipo battery (3S, 300mah) completely burned. Lot of smoke. The fire did not spread because the battery was in a lipo bag. The bag had started to melt but did contain the fire. The overcharging was my fault because I forgot to connect the balance lead. This is the second time a lipo bag saved me from a lipo fire.
Always use a bag when charging. Got mind from HK. I will buy more with my next order.
I will also install a smoke detector right over my charging station.
Be very carefull with lipos.:o

Good point about the smoke detector, I charge mine in a metal box on the garage floor.
BTW what brand of battery?

A metal box or a crock pot with a lid, ceramic, are good options.
Those batteries are nasty surprises sometimes.
Smoke detector is a good safety idea. I never leave them charging when I leave home.

I always charge my LiPo's beside me and I have a container of sand ready for action just in case.
Only sand can put out those lipo fires.

Storage for my LiPo's in a fire proof box.

Lipo bags are great but the best is to supervise them while charging :)

Still this is a good reminder , thanks Francois, Merci

"Only sand can put out those lipo fires"

Can Salt be used? or does salt cause a reaction with the LIPO?

All you need is a good quality charger with a balancer connector.
You go cheap and you pay the price.
The battery has nothing to do with it the charger should cut out the power to the battery is the charger is of high quality, No bags and no metal boxes or safes can save the battery if the charger is crap..

Michael you can throw the battery in a bucket of salt water.
