This crap has nothing to do with the model airplane hobby-some young guy who was weaned on video games since birth and doesn't know the difference between a computer screen and reality. Its nothing more than mental masterbation. This guy doesnt even know how a real airplane stays in the air. The real hobby is about building and realistically flying a scale airplane. This kid needs to find a real job and a real woman and stop living in a fantasy world of make believe. lol

Yes it takes skill and it also takes skill to win at video games but its a useless skill that achieves nothing and will get u nowhere in life. Building model airplanes is a skill that teaches basics like the ability to follow instructions and teaching you how to accomplish a task which can help u in later life. I don't see that having the ability to erratically shove an object around the sky teaches or accomplishes anything but some perverse self enjoyment. Flying 3D has no redeeming value of any sort. Just my opinion. And when was the last time you saw a real airplane hover 10 ft. above the ground in a nose up tail down configuration (not a Harrier Jet). IMAC and pattern simulate what real planes can do and are enjoyable to watch.

Hey Alan, you should keep your comments to yourself. You're jugging a hell of a lot of people on a style of flying!!! Its call evolution, maybe in your time planes didn't have the capability of doing this. Today receiving a foam plane already to fly is very challenging??? I guess you didn't go see the Air show in Mirabel (Volaria) this summer then you can comment on how real planes can fly.

As this is a forum this points out different points of view. It also becomes a educational tool. Michael Wargo said in an interview that the first time he demonstrated to a supplier that a certain plane could perform dancing in the air, the supplier said "Thats impressive, But never do that again." Now Michael goes around the USA demonstrating the suppliers 3D planes.
In the 1960's there was a plane at Canadaire that was being tested and could fly but could also hover and land like a heli. No runway required.
What I have noticed when attempting to fly 3D is the ability to understand and control power to weight ratio. This useful 3D tool I have noticed with trying to develop the ability to fly 3D comes in handy when landing on the runway. The
thumb and memory kick in to control throttle and elevator due to the exercise developed when practicing 3D. Of course you can also develop this skill doing touch and goes repeatedly. But the 3D part improves the throttle to weight response faster.
There are trainers, pattern planes, STOL, control line, fast delta wing, EDF, war birds, drones, helis, and 3D planes.
Just look at the forest around WIMAC. If all the trees were ash there would be no trees. Then there would be no challenge to finding a lost plane.
Variety is natural.

My intention was just to show a video I came across that showed incredibly skillful flying that I will never be able to do. 3 D has been around for quite a while. I remember well when we held an IMAC event at the club 20ish years ago . The best pilots in Canada were there for the pattern competition. One of them was Ivan Kristenson who had been a world champion in pattern. When not flying official competition flights, he and others did freestyle demos, essentially the same as today’s 3D. It was the first time I had seen those kinds of maneuvers. Maybe not realistic, but very impressive.
This hobby has room for many different styles.

Just like 3D, scale flying is a skill, I don’t think that there interchangeable but is quite a sight to see both styles in action.
I fly helis so have attached this. I think my fellow Pilots will attest to the skill it takes to setup and fly dual rotor.

Last week I was up north and saw a Cessna 182 on floats take off from the water, went straight up and hovered 100 ft. over the lake for about 30 secs. then went vertical, rolled over and did an inverted loop, then a stall turn and another roll. made another inverted loop and then came in for a landing-it was very impressive lol

I used to fly at Iles Bizarre in the little bay with Ray. I had a Piper Cub and like Ray a Northstar; which I still have BTW. I have a 2nd Big Foot my idea was to put floats on it who knows....retirement coming soon;)
