I didn't see anybody flying Apprentices or Timbers at that meet. the Germans are the most talented engineers and craftsmen in the world-why can't they build their own airline industry to compete with Airbus and Boeing-they could dominate that field like they did before WW2

This was most likely a well organized air show for the spectators. Not a fun fly for the pilots.

They have many events like that in France, Germany and Europe in general.
The FFAM (equivalent of MAAC in France) has more than 20000 members (double than MAAC) in an country 18 time smaller in size than Canada. A lot more chances to meet other pilots and builder to share information and technics than here.
