New Wings
My project is relatively small but might be interesting. It is a modification of my Graupner model (bar is closed due to virus), which I flied with Dwight as an instructor. It looks nice but it is too fast for my flying skills. So I decided to slow it down by designing and building new wings. I increase the wing area from 460 sq.in to 660 sq.in, used higher lift Eppler 197 airfoil and added slotted flaps. The challenge was that I had to use the same mounting as in the model with a single screw. It is a cantilever wing without struts and the new wingspan is 1.9m. The load will be taken by two strong spruce/plywood/balsa beams. Per my calculation they should take UP TO 6G down load.

I ordered some plywood parts to be laser cut by UMAKE.CA. I noticed that parts are OK for up to 1/16 thickness, for 1/8 they have burns around sharp corners. I gave the shop CAD models but noticed later that the parts were off around about 0.005”. Not much but next time I should tell them to enter proper offset or add this 0.005” to my CAD model.

Michal,
This looks like commercial aircraft level quality, very impressive. I would never notice 5 thou tolerance on any of my builds, I'd be lucky to be within 1/16" ![]() |

Very nice work Michael, it looks like structure expected in a full scale wing!

![]() 0.005" is not much but when you have a lot of parts its add quickly. |

Nice Design + Question about your CAD
Very clean Design, should fly beautifully.
For your CAD are you using Autodesk Fusion 360 or Dassault Solidworks? |
