re: New stands for our field

Hey guys. Stephan here. Does anybody believe like me that we need some new Nitro stands. Ours are looking tired and haggard after a long squak. I think the biggest problem is a good simple durable design. I have found one at a forum. If we build these ( which they predict are about $50.00 a unit) we will have them for a millenia We can put wheels on if anyone likes. anyway...go to the link I have provided and check out the stand then respond to this thread:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/club...wam-style.html If I get the go ahead I will ask Mike to authorize money to be spent on these new stands.

Re any interest in this?

Mike had posted something of a response. I tried to get the response but could not. I think we would do better having a Facebook page to post and run the clubs needs...easier I think. Anyway, This spring I will build the stand I proposed and see how many use it and get reviews. Those stands are proving especially difficult in the winter as the ice has made them IMPOSSIBLE to use. Stay tuned and I build one. i will post pictures. In the meantime does anyone have a metal detector? I found my plane but the engine must have flown off after impact. BTW if ever Robert tells you where a plane is in the field LISTEN! I listened and found it a half hour after he told me. God bless that man!

Usually when you loose something in the snow, Wait for some thaw and the object will stick up on top as the snow melting around it

Stephan - Great initiative!

The consensus from Directors, including Michael J., is that if you can build one stand to start with (including height modification - see below), the club will refund you (expense receipts required, please). Then we can look at feasibility/cost of building more. It will almost certainly cost more than $50 as the Design BoM was out of date and was in $US.

A couple of points made by the Directors:

- if you inform members when and where you plan to build this (and include BoM), you may get offers of assistance/material donations from other member(s).
- the design you proposed is too low (only 2 feet high) so the first step is to modify the design as the platform needs to be at least as high as the present ones.
- consider using materials recoverable from the existing stands, if feasible.

When you are ready, get in touch with me for reimbursement.

Good luck.

Michael O

Too low will encourage reaching over the prop to adjust needle valve.

re height changes and such

I am not going to recycle garbage wood into a new stand. You, as a fellow male, know that when you go too cheap you pay for it in other ways!! The height is too low and there are adjustments to be made. As for help I am fine on my own thank you. Too many cooks spoil the pot. I ha a degree in woodworking. I will be fine. The cost is too low but should not be too much more than that posted perhaps a $100.00 a stand.

re building a new stand.

So I built a new stand for the field. I want you guys to try it out and see what you think. It should be able to handle large nitro or electric planes. Lots of space to work. Here is the model I chose: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/club...wam-style.html

re the stand

Michael. All the points were taken into consideration. I did not build it stock from the plans. It is nice and high at 30" If folks want to help build other stands I will get all involved. I want to see if the design works for members at the club first though. I will do the cutting and purchasing, One day in spring when the road opens I will bring all the wood and invite members to come have a regular ol' "barn raising". with three other stands. Re-cooping the old wood is a good idea...for fire wood and a bonfire I think. Overall cost for one stand was $100.00 and I still have screws and wood left for the other stands so perhaps about $85.00 / stand? This stand is SOOOO easy to put together too.

Also too close to the private parts.
